The Lighthouse
Willem Dafoe is in negotiations to star in “The Witch” director Robbert Eggers’ new film “The Lighthouse” at New Regency and A24. Eggers will direct from his own script.

Dafoe will portray an aging lighthouse keeper in Nova Scotia in a story set in the early 20th Century. Rodrigo Teixeira, Lourenco Sant’Anna, Jay Van Hoy and Youree Henley co-star. [Source: Variety]

This Is Where It Ends
The Gotham Group (“The Maze Runner”) has optioned the film rights to Marieke Nijkamp’s bestselling young adult novel “This Is Where It Ends”. Lysa Heslov (“Served Like A Girl”) has been attached to direct.

The novel follows an Alabama high school student armed with a gun who takes his schoolmates hostage in a locked auditorium. Told from four perspectives over the span of 54 harrowing minutes, terror reigns as one student’s calculated revenge turns into the ultimate game of survival. [Source: Deadline]

The Rhythm Section
Production on the Blake Lively-led and Reed Morano-directed spy thriller “The Rhythm Section” will resume in June following Lively’s recovery from a major hand injury that required multiple surgeries. Lively suffered the injury while doing a stunt on the Dublin set in December.

Lively plays Stephanie Patrick who adopts the identity of an assassin to get to the bottom of her family’s death in an airplane crash after she finds out that it may not have been an accident. Jude Law, Daniel Mays, and Raza Jaffrey are also starring while Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson are producing the film which is targeting a February 2019 release. [Source: Variety

Russell Brand will play a down-on-his-luck hitman in the indie comedy caper “Butterfingers”. Brand’s character becomes involved in a race to complete a hit ahead of his arch-rival, with two kids he has kidnapped along the way in tow. Filming gets underway in the U.K. in July and Barnaby Southcombe directs from a script by Tom Nash. [Source: Variety]
