Quick News Hidden Baby Panic Fires Bill

A Hidden Life
Oscar-nominated writer-director Terrence Malick’s new film “A Hidden Life” has been acquired by Fox Searchlight Pictures for North America and select international territories later this year. The deal is said to be worth $12-14 million.

August Diehl stars in the film as Austrian Franz Jagerstatter, a devoted husband and father who refuses to fight for the Nazis in World War II, even as the possibility of execution threatens to tear him apart from his family. Oscar-nominated English filmmaker Michael Radford (“The Merchant of Venice,” “White Mischief”) has signed on to direct the indie biopic “Sweethearts” which is set in 1930s Hollywood and deals with the love affair between movie stars Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy. Eve Pomerance, Bill Black, Attit Shah and Amanda Kiely produce the film which begins shooting later this year in Spain. [Source: Variety]

Good People
Martin Short and Lisa Kudrow are set to star in the Amazon comedy pilot “Good People”. Greg Kinnear and Whitney Cummings co-star in the series about three generations of women working in the Ombusdmans office of a college. The trio navigate the current cultural climate and the concept of feminism across different generations.

Cummings is also writing and executive producing the pilot with Lee Daniels. Short has been cast as the self-satisfied Dean Ed Brown. Kudrow will play Lynn Steele, the university ombudsman, a tired, mercurial force of nature who finds herself being seen as out of touch by millennials. [Source: Variety]

Hello, Universe
Netflix will adapt Erin Entrada Kelly’s Newbery Award-winning novel “Hello, Universe” into a family film with Forest Whitaker and Nina Yang Bongiovi producing. Playwright and screenwriter Michael Golamco (“Always Be My Maybe”) will adapt the book.

The story begins when a bully’s antics land a timid boy in the bottom of a well. His self-proclaimed psychic friend and unknowing crush team up to find him with the story unfolding from four intertwining points of view. [Source: Deadline]

Child’s Play
Orion Pictures has released TV spot for the upcoming reboot of “Child’s Play,” the clip offering preview of Chucky’s killing spree. Mark Hamill stars as the voice of the killer doll in the film which is scheduled to hit cinemas on June 21st, while Aubrey Plaza and Brian Tyree Henry co-star.
