Rian Johnson’s “Knives Out” is set to serve as the closing night film of this year’s Fantastic Fest film festival in Austin, Texas. In addition, Bong Joon-ho’s “Parasite” is also joining a line-up which already includes Richard Stanley’s “Color Out of Space,” Veronika Franz & Severin Fiala’s “The Lodge,” and Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead’s “Synchronic”. Universal Pictures has announced a January 15th 2021 release date for Simon Kinberg’s espionage thriller “355” starring Jessica Chastain, Lupita Nyong’o, Penelope Cruz, Diane Kruger, Fan Bingbing, Sebastian Stan and Edgar Ramirez.
The story follows several women from different espionage backgrounds who come together to stop a global terrorist plot. Filming on the project began last month in Europe with Kinberg and Theresa Rebeck penning the script. [Source: The Wrap]
Sam Richardson (“Veep”) has joined the sci-fi thriller “Ghost Draft” at Skydance Media and Paramount Pictures. He joins a growing cast that includes Chris Pratt, Yvonne Strahovski, J.K. Simmons and Betty Gilpin.
Chris McKay helms the film about a husband and father who is drafted to fight a future war in which the fate of humanity may rely on his ability to correct issues of the past. Zach Dean and Bill Dubuque penned the script. [Source: Deadline]
The Invisible Life of Euridice Gusamo
Amazon Studios has acquired the U.S. rights to Cannes Un Certain Regard winner “The Invisible Life of Euridice Gusmao” ahead of the Portuguese-language tropical melodrama’s North American premiere at Toronto.
The story follows two sisters struggling to define themselves in the machista culture of mid-century Brazil and is a strong contender to be the country’s entry for the International Feature Film Oscar. A U.S. release date has yet to be set while Sony will roll the movie out in Brazil in November. [Source: Deadline]
