The Asphalt Kiss
JuVee Productions and The Nelson Rodrigues Estate are teaming for a screen adaptation of Brazilian playwright Nelson Rodrigues’ seminal 1960 play “The Asphalt Kiss”. The story deals with police brutality in Brazil, especially against black women, and homophobia.
Arandir is a young man comes to the aid of a dying male stranger in a crowded city square in Rio de Janeiro in the 1960s. The stranger asks for a kiss which Arandir gives out of kindness, setting off a media frenzy that engulfs Arandir and his family. Viola Davis and Julius Tennon will produce. [Source: Deadline]
A trailer has been released for “The Favorite” and “The Lobster” director Yorgos Lanthimos’s new 12-minute small thriller short film “Nimic” starring Matt Dillon and which premieres at the Locarno Film Festival today. In the short, a professional cellist has an encounter with a stranger on the subway which has unexpected and far-reaching ramifications on his life.
The Lion King
Using DeepFake technology, a YouTube user has edited together a twenty-second segment from the 2019 remake of Disney’s “The Lion King” so as to include the faces of the original characters on top of their more photorealistic counterparts – the result is something of a animated/photoreal hybrid. Maleficent: Mistress of Evil
Walt Disney Pictures has released a TV spot for the fantasy sequel “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” with the feud between Michelle Pfeiffer’s Queen Ingrith and Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent coming to the fore. Chiwetel Ejiofor, Ed Skrein, Robert Lindsay and Harris Dickinson co-star in the film which will premiere in cinemas on October 18th.
