In the wake of rave reviews out of Venice, early tracking figures for Todd Phillips’ “Joker” have gone up with the standalone DC Comics adaptation reportedly on track to now beat the $80.2 million opening of “Venom” and could go as high as $95 million for its opening weekend. Also said to be helping is a distinct lack of direct competition with a fairly anaemic Fall slate of films. [Source: Box-Office Pro]
The Andy Serkis-directed “Venom” sequel, with Tom Hardy reprising his role of investigative journalist Eddie Brock and Michelle Williams also returning, will be shot in the UK where pre-production is now underway. That’s a change from the first film which was shot primarily in New York and Atlanta. Kelly Marcel, who wrote the first film, returns as screenwriter. [Source: The Knowledge]
Netflix is in final negotiations to sign a distribution deal with leading French TV group Canal Plus. Canal Plus Group is aiming to forge strategic alliances to increase the volume of premium content it distributes and ramp up its subscriber base. DC Universe has released some new character banners ahead of the premiere of the second season of “Titans” on September 6th. Dick Grayson, Starfire, Raven, Hawk and Dove get the new one sheets with Korri and Rachel getting upgraded and more comic-accurate outfits.
