Quick News: Hostiles, Dates, College, Witches

The first photo has been released from director Scott Cooper’s upcoming western “Hostiles” starring Christian Bale, Rosamund Pike, Wes Studi, Jesse Plemons, Ben Foster and Timothee Chalamet. The film is slated to premiere at the Toronto Film Festival next month.

Set in 1892, Bale plays an Army captain who reluctantly agrees to escort a dying Cheyenne war chief and his family back home from New Mexico to the grasslands of Montana. Along with a young widow, they must overcome the punishing landscape and vicious outliers on the journey. [Source: THR]

Release Dates
The Weinstein Company has moved up “The Current War, “starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Thomas Edison, from December 22nd to November 24th. Additionally, the company has pushed back the Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix-led, Garth Davis-directed “Mary Magdalene” by several months to a March 30th 2018 release. Friends from College
Netflix has renewed its dramedy “Friends from College” for a second season of eight episodes. Keegan-Michael Key, Cobie Smulders, Fred Savage and Nat Faxon lead the cast of a group of friends from Harvard who are now in their forties. Nicholas Stoller and Francesca Delbanco co-created the series which premiered last month on the service. [Source: Netflix]

A Discovery of Witches
Teresa Palmer will play heroine Diana Bishop and Matthew Goode is the vampire Matthew Clairmont in Sky1 and Now TV’s upcoming TV mini-series adaptation of Deborah Harkness’ historical fantasy novel “A Discovery Of Witches”. Kate Brooke is penning the adaptation.

The story follows a young female scholar at Oxford who is a descendant of the Salem witches. She accidentally unlocks an enchanted manuscript and enters a forbidden romance with a charming 1,500-year-old vampire. Shooting begins in the next few weeks at Wolf Studios in Wales. [Source: Deadline]
