“Mr. Robot” and “Homecoming” creator Sam Esmail has closed a new multi-year deal with Universal Content Productions for their linear and streaming platforms including NBCUniversal’s recently announced streaming service. Esmail is currently working on the Rosario Dawson-led “Briarpatch,” the Emmy Rossum-led “Angelyne,” and a reimagining of Fritz Lang’s “Metropolis”. [Source: Variety]

Against All Enemies
Amazon Studios has acquired the Kristen Stewart-led 1970-set indie political thriller “Against All Enemies”. Jack O’Connell, Anthony Mackie, Margaret Qualley, and Colm Meaney also star in the Benedict Andrews-helmed film about the FBI’s attempts to discredit actress Jean Seberg through its Cointelpro program in retaliation for her support of the Black Panther Party. The Barking Murders
“Hello Ladies” star Stephen Merchant will topline BBC One’s crime drama “The Barking Murders” which also stars Sheridan Smith and Jaime Winstone. Filming begins in the Spring with Merchant playing serial rapist and killer Stephen Port in the story of his notorious Essex crime spree. Smith plays the mother of his first victim. Ophelia
Overcoming terrible reviews at Sundance last year, IFC Films has picked up Claire McCarthy’s “Ophelia” for release in North America. Daisy Ridley, George MacKay, Naomi Watts, and Clive Owen star in the reimagining of Shakespeare’s Hamlet which shifts the perspective to Queen Gertrude’s lady-in-waiting character in the play. BBC America has set a June 2nd U.S. premiere date for the fifth season of “Luther”. Monstrous and seemingly indiscriminate killings confound Luther and new recruit D.S.
