Baz Luhrmann’s Tom Hanks-starring Elvis film is set to shoot significant portions at the Village Roadshow Studios on the Gold Coast in Australia. No schedule for a start of production has been announced, but Tom Hanks is already onboard as Elvis’ manager Colonel Tom Parker with whom he had a complicated relationship. [Source: Variety]
Untitled Frida Kahlo Project
The life and work of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo will be the subject of a new animated film by Lupus Films and Universal Content Group. Paloma Baeza has signed on to direct the as-yet-untitled female-led project which will depict her life in a celebratory way, offering an accurate representation of her as an artist and a woman. It will incorporate 2D animation with some live-action elements. [Source: Variety]
A24 and DirecTV will distribute the teen crime drama “Low Tide” which had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival over the weekend. Kevin McMullin helms the film about three guys who spend the summer on the Jersey Shore, roving the boardwalk and getting into trouble, until the discovery of good old-fashioned treasure sets the friends on an course of escalating suspicion and violence. Robin Wright will both star in and make her feature film directorial debut on “Land,” based on an original script by Jesse Chatham and Liz Hannah. Wright plays Edee Mathis, a cosmopolitan lawyer consumed by grief who resolves to remove herself completely from life as she has known it – moving to a remote Wyoming cabin. Jennifer Garner is set to star in the comedy “Fantasy Camp” at STXfilms which has Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein (“I Feel Pretty”) attached to write and direct. Garner plays a woman attending a reunion at the theater camp of her youth, Camp Footlights, where she will get the chance to challenge her fears, live out her dreams and finally take the stage. John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum
Lionsgate has released two new TV spots from Chad Stahelski’s “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum”. In the new film the High Table wants John Wick (Keanu Reeves) dead for violating the very strict rules of The Continental and killing a member of their own. Now he’s got a $14 million bounty on his head and practically everyone is out to get him. The film opens May 17th.
