Dora and the Lost City of Gold
In the wake of Disney completely overhauling its schedule, including the pushing of “Artemis Fowl” back by nearly a year, Paramount Pictures is taking advantage. The studio has pushed back the live-action Nickelodeon adaptation “Dora and the Lost City of Gold” to August 9th – taking over Fowl’s old slot. [Source: Paramount]
“Birds of Prey” director Cathy Yan has set up her next film, a feature adaptation of Jenny Zhang’s debut short-story collection “Sour Hearts” at A24. Zhang and Yan will co-write the coming-of-age script.
The story unfolds from the perspective of a girl growing up in the outer boroughs of New York in the 1990s. With parents newly arrived from Shanghai, the family works through the unique trials of ascending to the middle class. [Source: Variety]
The Secret Life Of Pets 2
Fandango is teaming with Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment to offer exclusive advance screenings on May 25th of “The Secret Life of Pets” sequel. The follow-up to the 2016 comedic animated blockbuster will get this limited engagement two weeks before the film opens wide on June 7th. The preview tickets go on sale today. [Source: Fandango]
Detective Pikachu: Pokemon
Warner Bros. Pictures is having some fun with the marketing of “Detective Pikachu” this week, the studio and star Ryan Reynolds posting a link to what’s tagged as a leaked good quality copy of the entire film on YouTube. Turns out it’s a great big troll job by the studio – showing off two hours of Pikachu dancing. The real film opens in cinemas on Friday.
