Chris Hemsworth, currently filming the Sam Hargrave-directed Netflix action-thriller feature “Dhaka” in India, has posted some set pics from early filming on his Twitter account. The movie tells of a weary mercenary named Rake (Hemsworth) who is hired to save the son of a businessman in India. Playing with Fire
Andy Fickman (“Race to Witch Mountain,” “The Game Plan”) has signed on to direct the family comedy “Playing With Fire,” starring John Cena, for Paramount Players. Todd Garner and Sean Robins will produce.
The story revolves around a group of rugged wildfire fighters who meet their match when they rescue a trio of rambunctious children. Dan Ewen and Matt Lieberman penned the script. [Source: Variety]
Jeremy Strong (“Succession,” “Molly’s Game”) has signed on to star in Guy Ritchie’s “Toff Guys” alongside Matthew McConaughey, Hugh Grant, Henry Golding and Kate Beckinsale. Ritchie wrote the script with Marn Davies and Ivan Atkinson.
The story will explore the collision between old European wealth and the modern marijuana industrial complex with new gang entrants swarming. Strong will play Cannabis Kingpin Mathew who is seeking to take control of the last lucrative illegal market in Europe. Filming begins in England this Fall. [Source: Deadline]
League of Wives
Fox 2000 has preemptively acquired the rights to Heath Lee’s non-fiction book “League of Wives” with plans for an adaptation which Reese Witherspoon will produce.
The story follows a group of women, wives of military men who would never describe themselves as feminists, that banded together to save their fighter pilot husbands who were shot down, captured and imprisoned for years under deplorable conditions during the Vietnam War. [Source: THR]
Veteran British actress Rebecca Front (“The Thick of It”) has scored a leading role opposite Hugh Laurie in Armando Iannucci’s HBO space comedy pilot “Avenue 5”. Suzy Nakamura also stars in the space-set project.
Front plays a middle-aged American housewife, who boarded Avenue 5 using her sister’s non-transferable ticket. Strong-willed, articulate, likeable, she finds herself becoming the voice of the passengers and enjoying her newfound power. [Source: TV Line]
“Riverdale” and “Extant” actor Henderson Wade has scored a series-regular role in DC Universe’s “Swamp Thing” series. Wade plays Matt Cable, a Louisiana lawman who finds himself in dire straits when supernatural evil threatens the town he’s sworn to protect. Nancy Miller will produce and pen the script for a feature film adaptation of Maria Ruiz Scaperlanda’s novel “The Shepherd Who Didn’t Run”. James Presnal and Jonathan de la Luz alsp produce.
