Disc Release Dates
A couple of key home video release dates have been revealed this week with the acclaimed “Long Day’s Journey Into Night” hitting November 26th, “Good Boys” coming to disc on November 12th, “Hobbs & Shaw” coming November 5th, the live-action “The Lion King” arriving October 22nd, Rob Zombie’s “3 From Hell” and the well-reviewed croc thriller “Crawl” hitting October 15th, and “Spider-Man: Far from Home” hitting October 1st. The Justice of Bunny King
Essie Davis (“The Babadook”) and Thomasin McKenzie (“Leave No Trace”) are set to headline Gaysorn Thavat’s upcoming debut drama feature “The Justice of Bunny King” which is currently shooting in New Zealand. Sophie Henderson penned the script with Emma Slade producing for Firefly Films.
Davis plays a troublemaking mother who cleans car windscreens for a living. She is given new purpose when she takes her niece (McKenzie) under her wing. Both actors recently starred in Justin Kurzel’s “True History of the Kelly Gang” which premiered in Toronto. [Source: Variety]
Actress/producer Rita Wilson, Bron Studios and Rare Bird Films have all begun development of “Dream Doll,” a biopic of Barbie Doll inventor Ruth Handler as she founded Mattel in 1945 and created the now-iconic Barbie doll in 1959.
Handler was also one of the first women to run a Fortune 500 company. Oscar-nominated screenwriter Melisa Wallack (“Dallas Buyers Club”) will adapt the script from the 1995 memoir of the same name. Cristan Crocker and Andrea Nevins will also produce. [Source Variety]
“Old Town Road (Remix)” music video helmer Calmatic will make his feature debut on the remake of the 1990 cult comedy “House Party” for New Line. LeBron James and Maverick Carter are producing.
The original starred the hip-hop duo Kid ‘n Play as they attempted to throw the party of the year. “Atlanta” duo Stephen Glover and Jamal Olori wrote the script for the new film. [Source: THR]
With production now officially underway in South Australia on the long in the works new “Mortal Kombat” film, the movie’s writer Greg Russo has now shared the first set photo. At the same time, actor Mehcad Brooks has teased Jax’s fighting style with a brief video from a training session.
Simon McQuoid helms and James Wan produces the film which also stars Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Tadanobu Asano as Raiden, Sisi Stringer as Mileena, Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Josh Lawson as Kano, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion and Lewis Tan. The film opens March 5th 2021.
