Jeffrey Katzenberg’s short form service Quibi has ordered two new projects.
First up comes a Lionsgate-produced drama series remake of George Huang’s 1994 indie comedy “Swimming with Sharks” which starred Kevin Spacey and Frank Whaley. Kathleen Robertson (“Murder in the First”) will write and produce the series take which will shoot in February.
This contemporary update celebrates and skewers the Hollywood studio system and follows a young female assistant who is at the center of a studio filled with manipulators, schemers and intrigue. Little do they know she is poised to outwit them all. Tucker Gates will direct while Dana Brunetti, Liz Destro, Jay Cohen and Stephen Israel executive produce.
That’s not all though as the mobile-only streaming service is also producing the adventure series “Killing Zac Efron” which will see the titular star head into the jungle for three weeks as he looks to survive with only basic gear and a guide.
Efron will be put on an empty and dangerous island for three weeks with nothing but basic gear, a guide partner and a will to survive to help get him through his journey through the jungle. The series isn’t a parody and is said to be in the vein of “Man Vs. Wild”.
Quibi debuts on April 6th 2020.
