Oscar nominee Queen Latifah is set to star in and executive produce a film adaptation of Kate DiCamillo’s 2001 bestselling children’s book “The Tiger Rising”.
The story follows a 12-year-old boy, Rob Horton, who finds a caged tiger in the center of the woods near his home. Shortly after, Rob meets Sistine Bailey, a girl who shows her feelings as readily as Rob hides his. As they learn to trust each other and become friends, Rob and Sistine prove that some things can’t be locked up forever.
Latifah will play Willie May, a wise and compassionate woman who works as a chambermaid at a local hotel and becomes a source of solace and advice. Ray Giarratana adapted the screenplay and will direct while filming begins this Fall in Thomasville, Georgia.
