“Punky Brewster” Revival In The Works

Punky Brewster Revival In The Works

UCP is reportedly developing “Punky Brewster,” a revival of the 1984 NBC sitcom which will see Soleil Moon Frye reprising her role of the spunky titular character who became a 1980s pop culture icon.

The multi-camera original series saw Frye’s Punky being a bright young girl raised by a foster dad (George Gaynes). The original series ran for four seasons and nabbed three Primetime Emmy nominations. Frye also voiced the character in an animated spinoff series that ran two seasons.

In the new take, she’s now a single mother of three trying to get her life back on track when she meets a young girl who reminds her a lot of her younger self. It follows on from numerous sitcoms making a comeback decades later ala “Will & Grace,” “Roseanne,” “Boy Meets World” and more.

Frye, David W. Duclon and Jimmy Fox will executive produce along with Steve and Jim Armogida who are also writing.
