“Punisher” To Be The MCU’s Darkest Corner

Jon Bernthal stole the show as Frank Castle, aka. The Punisher, in the early part of the second season of Marvel & Netflix’s “Daredevil”. HIs appearance there though and the storyline that unfolded leads to an obvious question – where now?

With the ultra-violent character’s tragic origins explained and his storyline partly resolved by the season’s end, where does he go next? Speaking with EW, Bernthal says part of the storyline is exploring the aftermath of what happens after you’ve successfully achieved vengeance:

“This season is much darker as it goes, it gets darker and darker and more visceral. The show takes you on this journey of Frank becoming more and more human again and then shutting off and shutting off and going back to what works for him, and the place where he kind of belongs, and I think that’s a place of solitude and of darkness and destruction. It’s going to get into as dark and as brutal a place as you’ve ever seen in the Marvel world, I can promise you that.”

Bernthal also stressed he wanted to be respectful of the military community who, like Frank, may be dealing with the long-term mental consequences of war. “Marvel & Netflix’s Punisher” series debuts sometime later this year.

In related news, filming on the second season of fellow Marvel/Netflix series “Jessica Jones” has just wrapped after five months in production.
