In the console equivalent of a penis measuring contest, Microsoft and Sony have both made official announcements this week as to how many of their new consoles – the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 – have been sold worldwide.
The announcements came at CES where yesterday Microsoft revealed that over 3 million Xbox One consoles have been sold through the end of 2013.
Today, Sony President and CEO Kazuo Hirai’s announced that more than 4.2 million PlayStation 4 consoles have been sold worldwide as of December 28th 2013.
The gap of around a million units matches figures from independent analysis firm VGChartz which indicated sales of 2.6 million XB1 consoles and 3.6 million PS4 consoles the other week.
