The success of the likes of “The Jinx,” “Making A Murderer” and “The Keepers” has shown that there’s a big audience out there for true crime documentaries in series form. Netflix hasn’t been shy about exploiting the genre, and with it now so ubiquitous they’re taking it to the obvious next level – satire.
Tony Yacenda (“Pillow Talking”), Dan Perrault (“Honest Trailers), and showrunner Dan Lagana (“Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous”) have assembled the eight-episode mockumentary “American Vandal” which released its first promo today.
The half-hour true-crime satire explores the aftermath of a costly high school prank that left twenty-seven faculty cars vandalized with phallic images. An aspiring sophomore documentarian investigates the controversial and potentially unjust expulsion of troubled senior (and known dick-drawer) Dylan Maxwell.
Tyler Alvarez, Griffin Gluck, Jimmy Tatro, Camille Hyde, Eduardo Franco, Jessica Juarez, Lou Wilson, Camille Ramsey, Calum Worthy and G Hannelius star in the series which hits Netflix on September 15th.
