When asked about their “next projects” whilst out promoting their current ones, some directors play coy, and others duck questions with PR-approved jargon.
Filmmaker Ridley Scott is an exception. He’s a straight shooter, even if his responses are brief. Talking “The Counselor” with Empire Online, he was asked about his upcoming slate.
The most important quote? “Prometheus 2 is written” confirms Scott, though no shooting date is yet set. He adds: “I thought I’d left science-fiction for too long, that I had better climb back in. Prometheus was a great experience for me. Chasing number two, we can start evolving the grand idea.”
What about the other high-profile sci-fi sequel he’s working on? “Yeah, we’re working on [Blade Runner 2] right now – that will happen sooner or later.”
Scott has two other projects ahead of him at the moment – “I have already got the next two films ready to go. That will be 2014, 2015.”
The first is “Exodus,” the Biblical epic starring Christian Bale as Moses and Joel Edgerton as Rameses. He calls the film’s scale “f–king huge” and confirms they will part the Red Sea on screen.
The other is an adaptation of an acclaimed sci-fi novel: “There is also this very well written piece, one of the last great science-fiction books called The Forever War – we’ve finally got a very good draft of that for Fox.”
