Professionals TV Series Becomes Film

Lionsgate U.K. has secured the rights to produce a film version of classic 1970’s British crime action series “The Professionals” says The Hollywood Reporter.

The hard-hitting action series followed CI5, a law enforcement department allowed to use any (and invariably illegal) means to solve serious crimes that didn’t fall under the purview of the secret service or military.

Martin Shaw and Lewis Collins played the two best agents – the hotheaded but compassionate ex-detective constable Doyle, and a patient but ruthless ex-SAS mercenary named Bodie. Together they tackled terrorists, hitmen, racist groups and espionage suspects.

The film version will be an origin story for the characters – how Bodie and Doyle met and came to work for CI5. Previously Neil Marshall (“The Descent,” “Doomsday”) was linked to direct the project but that no longer seems to be the case.

A writer is currently working on the script and shooting aims to begin on location in the U.K. later this year. Actors already being mentioned as potential stars include Tom Hardy, Gerard Butler, Jason Statham, Liam Neeson and Gary Oldman.
