The revival of FOX’s drama “Prison Break” has reportedly generated more than ten times the user engagement on major social platforms since May than any other new broadcast show this TV season.
The claim comes from a study by analytics firm ListenFirst Media who say the series alo edged out every returning show on the Fall broadcast schedule with 19.5 million total engagements from May through the end of August.
To put that in perspective, the next nearest new talked about shows are “This is Us” with 1.56 million engagements, and CBS’ “MacGyver” with 560,000. Fox’s other revival of a major TV property, “24: Legacy,” came in at tenth with 197,163 engagements. Others who made it in include “Timeless,” “Speechles, ” “Son of Zorn,” “Lethal Weapon” and more.
The event series, shot on location in Morocco, features stars Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell reuniting as Miller’s character has surfaced alive and in prison, leading to an elaborate scheme being devised to bust him out.
Of course there’s no guarantee that big social chatter will translate into big ratings. Last year, six of the top ten most-buzzed-about shows were ultimately canceled. The two top places last year were held by “Supergirl” and “Scream Queens”.
