Mike Finch and Alex Litvak (“Predators”) are set to pen a new film adaptation of Mattel’s classic cartoon/action figure franchise “Masters of the Universe” for Sony Pictures says Heat Vision.
As expected the film will revolve around the prince-turned-warrior He-Man and his battles against the evil Skeletor in the magical land of Eternia.
Finch and Litvak’s version attempts “to balance a treatment that would convince the studio it was cinematic and keep the toy company satisfied that its characters were being portrayed appropriately.” Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch will produce.
The last attempt at a “He-Man” film was setup at Warner Bros. Pictures in 2007 and went through several writers. At one point John Stevenson (“Kung Fu Panda”) attached to direct, but Mattel took back the rights after they couldn’t creatively agree with Warners on the film.
Fox 2000 tried to pull together a film version with John Woo directing back in 2004 but that never panned out either.
