AMC has premiered four new posters for the upcoming second season of its comic book adaptation “Preacher”.
Three of them are single character posters featuring West Texas preacher Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), his ex-girlfriend Tulip (Ruth Negga) and Irish vampire Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun). The fourth teams the trio together.
The first season of the series effectively served as more of a prequel to the comics storyline, ending where the first comics began. That means the expanded second season, which runs thirteen episode, will jump right into the action as the trio embark on a road trip to find God and are thrust into a twisted battle spanning Heaven, Hell and everywhere in between.
Showrunner Sam Caitlin tells Variety spoke about why that decision was made and how loyal to the comics the show will be now:
“We wanted to see Jesse as a preacher, and [to see] Jesse have a relationship with God that was good before it turned really sh–y. It was really his character that was one of the reasons we felt necessitated having the first season feel like a prequel…
There will always be discrepancies. But we hope that every character, and every moment, and every scene feels in the world Garth Ennis created. Even if it’s not the exact same story, or it’s a new character, it should always feel like ‘Preacher.'”
Noah Taylor, Pip Torrens, Julie Ann Emery, Malcolm Barrett, Ronald Guttman and Justin Prentice join the cast of the new season which returns Sunday, June 25th.
