That this week’s “Power Rangers” is getting a sequel should it perform well is no surprise, the producers involved have made it clear they have a multi-film franchise in mind for the property and the cast are signed up for multiple films.
That the Green Ranger, a key character of the TV series story, could show up in these films if they’re made is also a certainty – which makes the tease of an appearance in the first film’s credits a non-spoiler.
Now, speaking with THR, the film’s actors have suggested that when it does happen – they should gender switch the character. Dacre Montgomery, the Aussie actor who plays the Red Ranger, says:
“A lot of the cast and I have discussed that we think it should be a girl. It makes it even: three girls, three boys. Whoever you’re going to drop into that position – whether it’s a girl – it’s inevitably going to create drama. It’ll be interesting to drop that drama into it and see how we all relate to it and work with it.”
Jason David Frank, who played the Green Ranger (aka. Tommy Oliver) in the series, appears in the new reboot in a cameo.
