“Popstar” Gets A Sing-A-Long Re-Release

Popstar Gets A Sing A Long Re Release

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema has announced plans for an officially licensed Sing-Along version of The Lonely Island’s 2016 musical mockumentary feature “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping” with 26 locations set to exclusively screen it.

Lonely Island trio Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone penned and starred in the film as former members of the hip-hop group the Style Boyz who broke up after Samberg’s frontman went solo as rapper Conner4Real.

Now an egotistical rich prick, Conner films a documentary about his life just as his second album flops and his world collapses. Though the film was a financial flop earning just under $10 million off a $20 million budget, it scored excellent critical notices and has been garnering a growing cult audience on VOD and disc.

The Sing-Along screenings sees the audience encouraged to celebrate the film with interactive elements, like on-screen lyrics for all songs, plus subtitles for key quotes, and props including inflatable microphones, glow necklaces, and ribbon wands.

Tickets for the “Popstar” Sing-Along are on sale now at Alamo Drafthouse locations across the country.
