Scott Cooper (“Crazy Heart”) has been given the offer to direct “The Hatfields and the McCoys” for Warner Bros. Pictures reports Hollywood Elsewhere.
Eric Roth penned the script which tells the story of the two families who were a part of the the first settlers in Tug Valley and whose feuding became something of a legend.
The wealthy Hatfields lived on the West Virginia side and mostly fought for the Confederacy during the Civil War. The McCoys lived on the Kentucky side and fought with the Union.
The dispute between the families led to several killings between them peaking with the death of Randolph McCoy’s wife and two children in 1888.
Brad Pitt is in talks to star in the lead role and produce. Robert Duvall will co-star.
