Chris Pine (“Star Trek,” “Wonder Woman”) and Gugu Mbatha-Raw (“Belle,” “Concussion”) have joined the cast of Ava DuVernay’s live-action feature film adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s 1961 children’s novel “A Wrinkle in Time” for Disney Pictures.
The Newbery Medal-winning book follows a young girl named Meg Murray (Storm Reid) who is traumatized by the loss of her scientist father after he goes missing. Determined to find him, Meg embarks on a journey to a mysterious fifth dimension and comes across some incredible creatures along the way.
The actors will play Meg’s patents – Dr. Alex Murray and microbiologist Dr. Kate Murray. They join a cast that features Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling. DuVernay directs from a script by “Frozen” co-writer Jennifer Lee. No release date is presently locked.
