Neill Blomkamp is finding inspiration in a new series of experimental short films with his “Oats Studios” initiative, now the first photos are out from Pixar’s attempt to do the same.
Launched late last year and announced in May, the Disney-owned animation studio revealed it had launched an experimental short film division. Within the new program, filmmakers are granted total creative freedom to develop a story, design a world, and produce a short film, within six months, and without any executive supervision.
Today the first photos from that division’s first effort, a short titled “Smash and Grab,” have arrived – posted online by Pixar artist and producer David Lally. More details will be revealed at this year’s annual SIGGRAPH conference in Los Angeles in early August.
