Netflix has released the first official photo from the third season of “The Crown” with the shot giving us a first look at Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II.
As each season of Netflix’s “The Crown” tackles a new decade in the lives of the British royal family, it has necessitated the entire cast of the series to be swapped out every two seasons with older actors taking over roles.
The third season will cover the period of 1964 through the early 1970s with Colman replacing Claire Foy in the lead role. Helena Bonham Carter will take over the Princess Margaret role from Vanessa Kirby, Tobias Menzies replaces Matt Smith as Philip, and Ben Daniels replaces Matthew Goode as Lord Snowdon.
Josh O’Connor and Erin Doherty also join the cast this season as Prince Charles and Princess Anne respectively. The series is fresh off thirteen Emmy Award nominations with the new season to debut in early 2019.
