Photo: Oldman Is Churchill In “Darkest Hour”

Focus Features and Working Title Films have unveiled a first look photo of Gary Oldman as Winston Churchill in Joe Wright’s “Darkest Hour”.

Anthony McCarten’s script follows Churchill just days after becoming Prime Minister of Great Britain during which he must face one of his most turbulent and defining trials: exploring a negotiated peace treaty with Nazi Germany, or standing firm to fight for the freedom of a nation.

As the unstoppable Nazi forces roll across Western Europe, the threat of invasion imminent, and his own party plotting against him, Churchill must rally a nation and attempt to change the course of world history. Also onboard are John Hurt as his successor, Lily James as his personal secretary, Kristin Scott Thomas as his wife, and Ben Mendelsohn as King George VI.

McCarten, Lisa Bruce, Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner are producing. The film is slated to open November 24th 2017 in the U.S. with a worldwide rollout commencing in the U.K. on December 29th 2017. Actual shooting on the film begins this Fall.
