Production has officially gotten underway in New South Wales, Australia on the Mel Gibson-directed WW2 drama “Hacksaw Ridge” with the first official still released today.
Andrew Garfield stars in the project as Desmond T. Doss, a medic and the first conscientious objector to win the Congressional Medal of Honor after saving dozens of soldiers during the Battle of Okinawa.
Teresa Palmer has been cast as his sweetheart, Rachel Griffiths is his mother, Sam Worthington plays an officer in charge of the unit, and Vince Vaughn plays a sergeant whose job is to get the new recruits ready for battle.
Luke Bracey, Richard Roxburgh, Luke Pegler, Richard Pyros, Ben Mingay, Firass Diraniand, Milo Gibson and Nathaniel Buzolic also star. Gibson helms from a script by Robert Schenkkan, Andrew Knight and Randall Wallace.
