Petition Wants “Walking Dead” Showrunner Fired

A petition started by Tyler Sigmon has been posted and asks for “The Walking Dead” showrunner Scott M. Gimple to be sacked following the midseason finale. As of writing over 35,000 signatures have been collected at Change.org.

SPOILERS AHEAD FOR “THE WALKING DEAD”

In the final moments of the midseason finale, Rick (Andrew Lincoln) was horrified to discover that his son Carl (Chandler Riggs) was bitten by a zombie with the character to be killed off in the upcoming mid-season premiere.

Gimple has served as showrunner since the fourth season and the petition calls for his firing by AMC specifically for ‘the unfair treatment of Chandler Riggs’ and for killing off the character. According to Riggs, Gimple decided that Carl needed to die in order to best serve the story and was the only thing to get Rick into the mindset of his comic book counterpart, who eventually decides to take a different path and let Negan live.

“The Walking Dead” returns to screens on February 25th.
