IESB reports that Director Michael Bay (“Transformers,” “Bad Boys 2,” “Armageddon”) will reunite with Jerry Bruckheimer and Disney to helm their tentpole Summer 2009 blockbuster “Prince of Persia: Sands of Time”.
Based on the long-running video game series and set in medieval Persia, it follows a king and his son who defeat the powerful Maharajah and kidnap his daughter, looting his palace of priceless treasure – including an extravagant hourglass and a mysterious dagger.
Tricked by a dying Vizier bent on harnessing terrible magic, the Prince accidentally releases the Sands of Time destroying a kingdom and turning its populace into ferocious demons. It’s up to him to restore everything to its natural order.
MecGame creator Jordan Mechner wrote the first draft of the screenplay for the feature film with subsequent drafts by Jeffrey Nachmanoff. There’s already expectation that this will be set for the July 4th weekend of 2009.
