Sean Penn and Christian Bale are looking to team for the war zone drama “The Last Photograph”. The project is in the midst of moving from Warner Bros. Pictures to Dark Castle where Joel Silver and Andrew Rona will produce and finance reports Deadline.
The story revolves around a photograph that becomes the catalyst for a journey two men undertake through war-torn Afghanistan. Bale plays a war correspondent who is the only survivor of an attack on a group of Americans.
Penn is circling the role of a retired ex-special ops soldier determined to free a family member who has been kidnapped and the journalist agrees to travel the rough terrain to find them with him in exchange for the story.
Kurt Johnstad (“300”) penned the script based on an idea by Zack Snyder. Niels Arden Oplev (“The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo”) is directing while Zack and Deborah Snyder along with Gianni Nunnari are producing.
Shooting would kick off next year once Bale wraps work on “The Dark Knight Rises”.
