Michael Pena is in early negotiations to play an undisclosed role in Edgar Wright’s “Ant-Man” at Marvel Studios.
The announcement comes a day after it was revealed that Michael Douglas has joined the production in the role of Hank Pym, the man who invented the size-shrinking technology.
Paul Rudd plays Scott Lang, a man seeking redemption who uses the technology to shrink to insect size. Pena’s role is thought to be that of a tough Latino character who has a lot of physical action scenes in the film.
Less confirmed today are rumors that Rashida Jones and Bryce Dallas Howard are said to be up for the female lead, though no one has been offered the part.
Meanwhile, Douglas recently spoke about why he joined the project. He tells Reuters: “I’ve been dying to do a Marvel picture for so long. The script is really fun, the director is really good. Dylan (the actor’s 13-year-old son) will love it. He’ll have a picture he can see.”
He adds that he was glad the news came as a surprise to people: “Sometimes – like (when) they didn’t see you for Liberace – you’ve got to shake them up a little bit and have some fun.”
