“Get Out” writer/director Jordan Peele is re-teaming with his former “Key & Peele” writer Charlie Sanders for “Weird City,” a new comedic sci-fi anthology series with six episodes ordered by YouTube Premium to air in 2019.
The stories are set in the not-too-distant future metropolis of Weird. Each episode is an exploration of issues that pertain to present day life, stories that could only be told now “through the prism of sci-fi and comedy”.
Jose Molina will serve as showrunner and executive producer while Emmy winner Adam Bernstein is set to direct the first two episodes.
Jordan and Sanders will both pen the series which Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions will produce alongside Sonar Entertainment, Mosaic, and Raskal Productions. The pair will also executive produce alongside Win Rosenfeld, Tom Lesinski, Jenna Santoianni, Sam Hansen, Jimmy Miller, Keith Raskin and Linda Morel
The project is separate from the other anthology series Peele has in the works – the reboot of “The Twilight Zone” at CBS All Access. Peele is also an executive producer on TBS’ “The Last OG,” HBO’s upcoming “Lovecraft Country,” the Nazi drama “The Hunt” and a Lorena Bobbitt docu-series with the last two set-up at Amazon.
