“Game of Thrones” and “Narcos” star Pedro Pascal has scored the title role in the upcoming first “Star Wars” live-action TV series “The Mandalorian”.
Pascal’s name was already rumored as a contender, but he was only one of numerous up for the part at the time. Now he’s been offered the role and negotiations are underway.
Jon Favreau penned and executive produces the series, which is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. The action follows the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.
Dave Filoni, Taika Waititi, Rick Famuyiwa, Deborah Chow and Bryce Dallas Howard will all direct episodes. The series is expected to premiere on the Disney streaming service, Disney+, in 2019.
The news follows last week’s official announcement that Diego Luna would lead a series based on his “Rogue One” character Cassian Andor, that show serving as a prequel to the events of ‘Rogue’.
