Aaron Pederson (“Mystery Road”), Chris Haywood (“Muriel’s Wedding”), George Mason (“Home and Away”), Dan Wyllie (“Animal Kingdom”) and singer Julia Stone are set to join Kelly Macdonald (“No Country for Old Men”) and Garrett Hedlund (“Mudbound”) in the long-awaited film adaptation of Tim Winton’s Booker Prize-nominated novel “Dirt Music” at Wildgaze Films and Aquarius Films.
The story charts the illicit romance in a tightly-knit Australian outback community between a fragile woman named Georgie (Macdonald) and a mysterious young poacher (Hedlund). When Georgie’s partner Jim gets wind of the tryst, a chase ensues between the two men across the remote and unforgiving terrain.
The much in-demand screenwriter Jack Thorne has adapted the screenplay with “Chopper” and “Ned Kelly” director Gregor Jordan helming. Filming begins this week around Bardi Jawi country in the Kimberley, Western Australia and will continue on in Noongar country in Perth and Esperance, Western Australia. Finola Dwyer, Amanda Posey, Angie Fielder and Polly Staniford produce.
