Paul Thomas Anderson Has A “Vice”

Appearing at the Venice Film Festival where his new feature “The Master” drew rave reviews, filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson spoke about his next project, entitled “Inherent Vice”, to Empire.

Based on the Thomas Pynchon novel, the story is described as a 1970’s Californian detective story that sees a stoner P.I. helping a former lover with an intriguing case involving infidelity, asylums and cops.

Anderson compares it to a “Cheech and Chong” movie and that the adaptation is “just gonna be great and, hopefully, fun.”

Anderson has spent years developing an adaptation of the most celebrated of reclusive writer Pynchon’s novels, “Gravity Rainbow”. However there are no set dates as to when that project will go forward.

“Hopefully not long. I’d like to have a few years of being more productive. But we’ll see” says Anderson.
