“Bourne” series filmmaker Paul Greengrass is circling the upcoming film about Richard Jewell that actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill are developing at 20th Century Fox.
Jewell was a security guard who discovered a suspicious backpack in the Olympics compound during the 1996 games in Atlanta. He soon was vilified as a potential terrorist.
The hope is for Hill to play Jewell and DiCaprio to play a Southern attorney who knew Jewell casually. The lawyer guided Jewell through the demoralizing media circus that followed. The FBI finally cleared Jewell three months later.
Billy Ray, who penned the script for Greengrass’ last film “Captain Phillips,” penned the script for this project based on Marie Brenner’s 1997 Vanity Fair article “The Ballad Of Richard Jewell”.
DiCaprio, Hill, Jennifer Davisson Killoran and Kevin Misher will produce.
