The casting for the next two seasons of Netflix’s “The Crown” continues to only upgrade the show’s already high standard with a new report today indicating Paul Bettany is in negotiations to take over from Matt Smith as Prince Philip.
The series has a six-season plan with every season representing a different decade. Rather than use make-up to age the actors, every two seasons the show will undergo a complete recasting for the same roles.
For the third season, Olivia Colman will take over the role of Queen Elizabeth II from Claire Foy while Helena Bonham Carter has signed on to replace Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margaret.
UK columnist Baz Bamigboye broke the Bettany report and is pretty reliable in his scoops, but adds that there’s no deal set as yet. Both Michael Sheen and David Tennant were rumored to be in the mix for the part.
