Freeform has given a put pilot commitment to an immigration-themed reboot of the popular 1990s family drama “Party of Five”.
The original revolved around the five Salinger siblings who become orphans after their parents are killed in a car accident caused by a drunk driver. Matthew Fox, Scott Wolf, Neve Campbell, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Lacey Chabert starred.
The new take puts the focus on a group of Mexican-American siblings, the five Buendias children, who struggle to survive when their parents are suddenly deported. Original series creators Chris Keyser and Amy Lippman and studio Sony Pictures TV are producing.
Keyser and Lippman will write the pilot, along with Michal Zebede while Rodrigo Garcia is set to direct.
