Park Chan-wook To Helm “Fingersmith” Film

“Oldboy” and “Stoker” director Park Chan-wook is set to make a Korean-language thriller based on Sarah Waters’ 2002 crime novel “Fingersmith” for Moho Film and Yong Film.

Set in Victorian London, the book followed a group of young women who are petty thieves (fingersmiths). Park’s adaptation will be renamed “Agashi” and set in Korea during the time of Japanese rule.

Casting begins this month, with young unknowns expected to score the two lead female roles, ahead of a shoot in the first half of 2015.

The book was previously adapted into a 2005 BBC mini-series starring Sally Hawkins, Imelda Staunton, Rupert Evans and Charles Dance.
