The infamous One Million Moms special interest group has begun a new campaign against FOX’s new supernatural series “Lucifer” says Jezebel.
Loosely inspired by Neil Gaiman’s comic of the same name, the series follows the fallen angel who has grown bored as King of Hell and so resigns his throne, abandons his kingdom, and retires to Los Angeles where he gets helps the LAPD punish criminals.
The site is upset with the flattering portrayal of The Devil, played by Welsh actor Tom Ellis, seemingly not happy with this portrayal which harkens back to Milton’s “Paradise Lost” and which they claim makes him “cool and irresistible to women”:
“[It] is meant to make people rethink assumptions about good and evil, including about God and Satan. The program included graphic acts of violence, a nightclub featuring scantily-clad women, and a demon. The message of the show is clear. Lucifer is just misunderstood. He doesn’t want to be a bad guy, it’s God who is forcing him to play that role.”
The series has been an OK rater, most recently pulling in a 1.5/4 and 4.86 million viewers in its Monday 9pm slot. Critical reviews have been fairly dismal.
