Newcomer Kenny Wormald (MTV’s “Dancelife”) has scored the lead role of ‘Ren’ in Craig Brewer’s “Footloose” remake at Paramount Pictures according to a press release from the studio.
Also announced today are Dennis Quaid as ‘Reverend Moore’ and Miles Teller as ‘Willard’, the trio joining the already cast Julianne Hough as the female lead. Both Zac Efron and “Gossip Girl” star Chace Crawford were previously attached to the male lead role but ultimately dropped out.
Kevin Bacon and Lori Singer starred in the 1984 original, which told the story of a rebellious outsider who moves to a new town where music and dancing are banned and proceeds to shake everything up.
Brewer directs from a script he adapted from Dean Pitchford’s original. Craig Zadan, Neil Meron, Brad Weston and Dylan Sellers will produce while Jamal Sims (Madonna’s Sticky & Sweet Tour_ will be handling the choreography. The film is currently slated for an April 1st 2011 release.
