Paramount is in final negotiations to acquire domestic distribution rights to the long gestating MLK-themed feature “Selma”.
The story deals with Martin Luther King’s 1965 landmark voting rights campaign regarded as the peak of the civil rights movement.
Ava DuVernay penned a re-write of the script which caught the attention of Oprah Winfrey who has boarded the project as producer. Filming aims to begin as soon as possible.
Winfrey’s attachment pushes this further along than two other MLK films in development including Paul Greengrass’ “Memphis” and Oliver Stone’s now rejected biopic.
