Paramount Players, Temple Hill and Picturestart have reportedly put “Summer Loving,” a prequel to the iconic 1978 John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John led musical “Grease,” into development.
The original musical deals with the romance between high school teens from opposite worlds – the rough-and-tumble greaser Danny Zuko and the virginal Australian good-girl Sandy Olsson.
This prequel will deal with the summer fling they had before meeting up again at high school, details of which come out in the song ‘Summer Nights’. John August (“Big Fish,” “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”) will pen the script.
August penned both the live-action “Aladdin” and “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark” adaptation opening this year.
