Following interview quotes over the weekend indicating as such, Paramount Pictures, Skydance and Bad Robot today announced that “Star Trek 4” is in the works and that Chris Pine’s Captain Kirk will cross paths with a man he never met – his father played by Chris Hemsworth.
Hemsworth, who appeared in 2009’s “Star Trek”, will return as George Kirk to star alongside Pine – despite the character meeting his demise in the opening sequence of that film. All the remaining cast is also expected to return.
J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay will write the screenplay while J.J. Abrams and Lindsey Weber will produce. No director or release date has yet been set. The news comes as “Star Trek Beyond” is slated to hit cinemas on July 22nd. Sulu, Krall and McCoy the focus of an action-heavy final trailer for that film which just premiered today.
