We’re still a few months away from the release of the Justin Lin-directed “Star Trek Beyond,” but Paramount Pictures is reportedly already looking ahead to another big screen chapter in the series.
Trek Movie reports Paramount has registered the title “Star Trek 4” with the MPAA, likely referring to the fourth film in the series since the 2009 reboot by J.J. Abrams.
Lin’s ‘Beyond’ is the third of those films and the last one those involved are reportedly contracted for. Should a fourth go ahead, new deals would likely have to be locked down and in fact already are in the cases of series leads Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto who scored a hefty pay raise in the process.
The registration doesn’t indicate that the studio has given a green light to the film though. “Star Trek Beyond” premieres July 22nd, while a new “Star Trek” TV series is set to arrive very early 2017.
