Hayden Panettiere (“Heroes”) is set to play Amanda Knox in a Lifetime telemovie based on the infamous murder of Meredith Kercher in 2007 reports BBC News.
20-year-old American student Knox was sentenced to 26 years in jail in December for murder and sexual violence against her British roommate Kercher in a house share in Perugia, Italy in 2007. Her ex-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito and small-time drug dealer Rudy Guede were also convicted for being in on the assault and killing.
The trial caused much media debate, especially in the U.S., about the fairness of the Italian legal system. Wendy Battles (“CSI: NY”) is penning the script and the project will premiere on Lifetime next year.
