Seems Robert Zemeckis’ “The Walk” isn’t the only film going wide this weekend that needs to worry.
Variety reports that early box-office predictions for Joe Wright’s big-budget fantasy epic “Pan” are not looking good with the film on track to earn a pretty terrible $21 million this weekend.
Budgeted at a costly $150 million, the trade says Warners “should brace itself for steep writedowns”. Not helping are reviews which so far have been unkind with the film currently scoring 38% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The hope for the studio lies with international. “Pan” opens this weekend in about 60% of overseas territories. Zemeckis’ ‘Walk’ meanwhile is tipped to earn betwen $5-7 million for the weekend – not good numbers, but the film’s much lower $35 million budget will mitigate the risk.
